Made myself another carving knife. I went with full tang this time. Scales are ipe, held together solely with epoxy. I drilled shallow holes on the inside of the scales to create little "epoxy pins" for extra insurance. My brother told me ipe has a reputation for not adhering well with glues. I've tested the strength of the glue on this and have no doubt it will hold together. Pictured is the first spoon I carved with it (well-seasoned mesquite). I like the profile of this one for carving. Heat treatment seems perfect.

Fine carving tool. Very well made (and tested, too!). Most of my home-made tool (knives & adzes) handles are squarish.
What I learned is simply that I don't have to pay precise attention to the blade to know its orientation. . . . vertical/horizontal.

Most PacNW style carving knives have both a sweep (crooked) and double edges.
I'll say single is better as you can turn it around and push on the spine for fine cuts.
