Hi all, I just wanted to share my newest bit of carving kit a Twca Cam courtesy of Mr Westermann of this parish.

The Twca Cam (translating as bent knife in Welsh) is basically a spoon knife on steroids and gives you much more leverage than a traditional small spoon knife.

I have only used it a few times and already I can see it becoming one of my go to tools for spoons and bowls.
It leaves a lovely smooth finish and is a joy to use.

No affiliation just another happy customer.

Are you using a harness with it?

Hi MM, not yet but I do plan to give one a try, saw a video of one being used to make the bowl of a spoon and it took a fraction of the time a traditional spoon knife would.

I have been using it to make a couple of small kuksa shaped noggins that I have clamped into my bench so not needed a harness but the extra length is really helping to fly though the bowl making.

Uw! That's nice! If I wasn't so cheap I'd love to get one of those!

I did debate it for some time but won myself on the basis that it is just not the type of tool you can get an equivalent of somewhere else.
I don't mind paying out for good tools, especially the more specialist ones that aren't made much anymore.
At the price of a granny B I'm glad I took the punt on getting one.

Congratulations! There is great satisfaction in a well made tool. These have a great reputation. Doesn't seem like a fellow can go wrong getting one. We'll be looking for those spoons now.... :)

Well here is the noggin I roughed out yesterday, I may even leave the bowl as is rather than sanding. It's really smooth and has just a couple of small tool marks mainly because of my clumsiness!
