Buckshot,

Its the Newton Billhook from Jack (Woodland Organics). Cost £25, hand made in UK. Definately worth it.

Tried it last night - the willow didn't stand a chance. Also tried it on windfall branches for some smaller fire wood -definately better than SFA. I like it as you can work close to the ground with out fear of damaging the edge by hitting the earth (due to the shape).

Also lighter, smaller and easier than SFA (which I still love) to carry.

My previous plays with billhooks have been excessively big bulldogs etc. but this small, more managable and has a bloody sharpe edge. Great tool once you've had a play to get use to it.

Get one!

Do I get commision or my billhook badge now!

Sounds cool ... I'm still waiting for jack to convert me! One day ...

No logo or makers name apart for saying hickory on the handle, roughly the same size/shape as the ones we used hurdling but heaver thicker blade and a convex grind (which looks like it has been sharpened on the one side much more than the other)

I knew I had some somewhere, went for a rummage in the shed and unearted 3 billhooks made by Brades, the smallest has a blade of about 6 inches, don't know what that would be used for, maybe making spars for thatching?. The other two are 'normal size', put a new edge on one and will try it out in the field next weekend.
Does anyone have any knowlege of the Brades make.
