Hi I've just bought a mora woodcarving knife (short blade about two inchs ) and a crook knife and a gransfors wildlife hatchet- im dying to try out some easy starting projects - anyone know where i can find plans for a spoon or anything else anyone can suggest??
Cheers guys - just joined today !

Talk about your handy topics... I just got my crook knife in the mail yesterday. Just need my axe now I guess. Can't wait to carve me a spoon. Youtube does have some good vids about spoon carving, this one shows some safety tips and how to carve the bowl.

thanks guys - theres some great stuff here itll take me a while to work through - ill post a pic of my first effort
:O)

Remember the three golden rules of wood carving.

1, A sharp knife carves more easily than a blunt one.

2, Always keep your carving knife sharp.

3, Don't start carving if your knife isn't sharp.

Seriouly though a sharp knife is much safer to use as less effort is needed to perform the cut and therefore there is less chance of the blade sticking then slipping as more pressure is applied.
