new tent / tepee

I'm thinking of getting a new 2 man tent or light weight tepee.

No in weight than 3.5kg ideally less than 3kg - any suggestions

GoLite Hex 3, great tent, sleeps two in comfort, and you can leave the central pole at home, and hang the tent from a line (loop at top of tent)

I'll second that tent, just don't spend your hard earned on the bug nest. Get a net from Ikea, and with about five minutes of stitching it will fit in your hex perfectly, and it'll set you back about a fiver!!

Has anyone used a small stove in a golite hex 3?

i think the hex is made of nylon so that is probebly not a good idea

Leon is right, the Hex is made of Silite impregnated nylon, so no open fire, I have used a small liquid fuel stove in mine ok though

founds somewhere doing the full hex, floor and nest for $325 US plus p&p

I was thinking upto £250 so that fits nicely.

Problem with bug net form Ikea is that is is cotton, which I not that happy with. It gets heavy when wet and every cotton inner I've had has gone mouldy, despite drying well.

wow thanks alot guys this is what i'v been looking for, for a while, looked at tentipis but thery were a bit big for what i want

have a 2 man home made one at the mo but am looking to get a decent tent of my own and this looks perfect
done a quick bit of research on prices and found that the outer fly is arround £180 to £190 and extra for a ground sheet and or bug net thing

seams a bit dear to me but what sort of quality are they? will it last years???

Flipping heck that's a long link hope I've done it right. Mine is as new the only time it was up was when I first got it to see how it went and yes you can cook in it and have an open fire n stuff.
I'm presently trying to get out of pest control duties next weekend so I can make the trip down the Wharfe with You, Troughing Doormouse,and my brother David B. If I can make it I'll fetch it with me n you can have a look.

They come up cheaper on the bay from The Outfitter at Harpers Ferry. It is where I got mine and I had no problems with them.

When you first unpack the GoLite, you may think,"whats this, thin plastic stuff", the material is thin, but very well made, and will stand very bad weather no problem, its deceptive until you pitch it.

I use the bug nest in mine and have had no condensation problems to date. A friend of my son used it a few weeks ago and has now sold his Akto and bought a Hex 3

thinking about it I'm not 100% about having a "tent" with no seperate porch. I often have lots of wet gear (especially if surfing) which I'd normal dump in the porch.

Suppose I could role part of the floor up.

Tent or tipee? Still not sure.

so if I discount the Hex 3 as there is no porch therefore no where to keep wet things, out of site, other than inside the tent, what other tents (upto £250) do you guys suggest.

What are Tatonka tents like?

The size of the hex 3, if you are on your own you will have ample room to stick wet gear inside. Either that, or you could put a tarp above the tent, I did this on a recent trip with Jamie, I supplied the tent, he supplied the tarp. We were able to sit outside the tent door and still be sheltered from any rain. Also, you can get near the fire, I tend to keep a fire quite a way away from the Hex 3!

I have a tarp to go with the Hex as well, sticks or walking poles at the front and guy it down over the back of the Hex. Or, you could just take a couple of bin liners and store your kit outside, did this at the moot this year and it worked fine, even in the downpours we had there.

Some of the Vango's look good, but, they will weigh a lot more than a Hex 3. A mate of my son has one of these (I think its this model)

All cotton, no condensation problems, small porch at front, these were a firm favourite of mine (After my Black's Mountain Tent died) for many years. They do a version with the orange interior cotton tent, and a dark green nylon fly sheet

It has a porch for wet kit and a side (as well as front) opening.
