Many here will know Portland works the place where stainless steel was first made into cutlery and where knifemaker Stuart Mitchell and many others still work today. It was purchased a few years ago by a property developer who has been trying to get planning permission to evict all the small businesses and convert it to flats. The campaign to save Portland Works has just had a major boost as the planning officers have recommended that the application be turned down. http://www.sheffieldtelegraph.co.uk/lifestyle/portland_works_campaign_boost_1_3309053
It still has to go to planning committee but they do not often go against planning officers advice. This decision has undoubtedly been influenced by the large scale public response including over 2000 signing the online petition. I think BCUK can claim a hand in that.

A quick update for this... After reading of the case officers report recommending that the Planning Board reject the application to convert to apartments, which we managed to make front page news in local press :D , our landlord decided to completely withdraw the application, it's gone, there is no planning application any longer and a new one will take years and cost further thousands of ££££...

This doesn't alter our plans, plan A for us us still raise the cash and buy the works, asset lock it and preserve it, in use, for future generations...

Cheers all for your help and support thus far :)
