SIP isn't too bad Paddy they tend to be a bit made on a budget but fairly solid. if it gets you the chance to see if you like it it'll do the job. My 1st lathe was a cheap Clarke with a spindle centre from machine Mart, it was enough to get me into it. I now have an Axminster lathe with a goliath chuck a lot easier to change speeds and a lot easier on the ears. the bearings on the clarke aren't the best feature
 
Yeah I just had a few silly issues with the delivery guys bouncing it but it's fine now .
And as You say it will get me going .
To be fair I'm gathering hobbies since joining this site last year .
