I consider June - July the best months for nettle tea. I got out today and made some, and it was great.

1. Never boil it on a gas trangia/ stove - always use flame.
2. Never wash the nettles before boiling
3. Only use the small - medium leaves (unless you like a bitter tea)

Get some small leaves and put in a mess tin or simular object.
Cover the leaves in water.
Boil
Filter using shirt or simular object
Drink
Say "mmmmmmmmm"

And you have the perfect nettle tea.
Also try using rasberries, thats nice.

I started having nettle tea around a month ago and would say most are past it by now - although i only took the very small only just oppening leaves from the top. Ver nice with lemon and honey i also use quite a few more leaves than you (but then tend to put them into cooking). Also made a truely special nettle beer this year - added a lot of citrus and bottled still fermenting so was a very sparkling light and not too strong ale. didnt last long though.
:)
Man i have a thirst on now!

I'd say badgeringtim is right, they are past their best now. Make sure you take the freshest brightest green shoots you can find.
