  • Merry Christmas Guest, we hope that you have a great day wherever you are, and we're looking forward to hearing of your adventures in the New Year!
Yes, the Moot carries full public liability insurances. Tony's quite specific about it.

This is a very good point actually, but either folks go down the whole insured to the hilt route or accept that folks attend on their own recognisance and others back that up in case of litigation.

Any one with experience in this kind of thing ?

cheers,
Toddy

Is there a citizen's advice bureau anywhere near you? Good place to get free advice about insurance from an expert about running free courses.

Secondly, getting first aid training - St John's Ambulance?

Pick a course that will give you a future income. The chances of you making a living from bushcraft are very slim, one well known school closed down recently and if you look online you will find lots of 'Schools' are not fully booked now in high season; I would think others are struggling and will go bump too :(

Its great for you to take others out and teach even on an informal basis but have a reality check moment here and think about what will put food on you and your families table in the future...odds on it won't be bushcraft so think long and hard about education.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Are there any rules governing liability for clubs and associations in the UK ? In Australia, not-for-profit clubs and associations have limited liability, they must be formally registered and comply with a bunch of regulations, but its actually not very onerous once its setup.

If the UK has similar rules, perhaps you could start a bushcraft “club”, charge a few $ (to cover costs of equipment, meetings, and venue hire) but you really can’t be taking any money out of it or you would not meet the not-for-profit criteria.

Also – down here – many councils run community courses and are looking for ideas and instructors. Mrs A wanted a self defence class for kids and the local community centre was only too pleased to find an instructor and run an evening course – the liability etc is covered by the council and the instructor was paid !

Good luck.
