Can anyone identify this tree my wife saw in West Wales (Minwear Woods nr Haverfordwest)?

Nearest I can get to is Spindle Tree - but my wife will not agree....

Nope, not Spindle.............looks like one of the weird wild cherry hybrids that seem to be in abundance at the moment, or it may well be an ornamental crab apple that was mentioned in a thread here before Christmas.

I'll have a search and see if I can find it :)

Certainly looks like the same as the thread linked to above, have one growing at the front of a local school.
Still some spindle fruit about but it is not the same as the image above but looks like this,

When was the photo taken John ?
I don't know of anything with those leaves that's still got them this late on :dunno:

Willow leafed cotoneaster does though, but the leaf's not thin or willowy enough to be those ones.

Looks like Leucothoe or red choke berry to me. Had both in my garden possibly a bird has eaten the berries and dropped the seeds in the woods?

Zone 5 is pretty blooming cold….the UK and Ireland are between 7 to 10…relatively mild :)

They are ornamental plants well shrubs really but any shrub left to grow can become a tree.
