Good advice there. I'm kinda lucky, I knew early on that i wanted an outdoors job... Was 13 or 15 there bouts. But getting a job in the environmental sector ain't easy. I volunteered in local Scout camp, with btcv, wildlife trust and with local ranger service. Went to uni and then took me a few years to get my first official ranger post. Had to work in pubs and shops to make ends meet, even worked in offices (shudder).

If you really want to change directions it can be done. Some of my fellow rangers had totally different jobs before becoming rangers but they had a rougher ride than I did.

A great post for you Ash and the way you might want to think about going forward.

I'd make a great instructor because I have a have a large dong. Jinsin is trying to act like I need to write a personal statement on this thread. I don't think so pal. I will not be explaining why I'm worthy, lol. But any advice that can get me somewhere I will definitly take it. Thanks again guys.

That's going to draw in the crowds bud an attitude like that, I was actually trying to help.

If you weren't writing a personal statement why have you meantioned several times you have 47 IT qualifications?

Not going to bother posting again, just going to sit and enjoy what happens next ...:lurk:

Ok,

Let's stop any bitching.

Ash, you're getting good advice along with our humour.

Like I said earlier, get some experience in outdoor work. some courses that are cheaper over a weekend.

Luck will play a big part as will 'who you know' in the business.

No-one on here intentionally dismisses anyones queries.

I speak from experience and i'm sitting here retired on a good pension at 46 and able to get out and still learn.

Btw, what's a qualification?

I don't seem to have any of those.

Ash Blue,

It's a pretty basic human requirement when interacting that if you give a bit then you get. If you get my drift... At the risk of sounding negative.. You want advice from us and are happy to take it but you dont want to let us know about the important side of 'you' which pertains to your experience or skills in relation to 'bushcraft' and to get 'good' advice that's important.

Someone with your intellect will know the above is true.

TBH the picture you're painting is of a 'taker' not a 'giver' which is not what instructing is about.

The question is still relavent though, Do you have any experience?
The one thing an instructor needs is a depth of knowledge. You need to know a subject inside and out.
I instruct people for a living (not bushcraft, but the point stands) and a student can tell if you are not 100% grounded in your subject.
A good grounding in a subject takes a while to build up and you can't do it in 12 months, especially in a subject as diverse as Bushcraft.

Ok jinsin, I didn't realise you were trying to help that time, sorry. Jeez, I can't tell the difference between advice, humour, or trolling. I haven't got any quals in bushcraft, but I do have a diploma in animal managment that may help a bit. All that I've learned has been from personal experience and learning from instructional dvd's and that kind of thing. I spend a lot of time discovering things for myself, and even got into a bit of hunting and tracking. The reason I mention my IT quals was just because I felt some people were underestimating me and what I really am aiming to achieve. I just wanted them to know I have something to show for putting ambition into goals. I'd like to now add some more quals to my list. But this time quals that mean something to me. All my others were basically a way to try to get myself off the streets, because at the time I was going down a very bad path with my life. Now I feel I can finally go for what I want.

Thats way better Ash, you will find most people will be willing to respond to you now, all you have to do on this forum is be honest, keen and have a thick sence of humour.

Glad things are better for you now and that you've choose to do the right things in life, its the way to go, less hassle and more peace.

Good on you Ash.

It's not easy to get the humour over on the net if you've not met the person(s).

You're trying for the goals we would all like to achieve.

Stay with us buddy, it's a laugh in our community but boy can you learn from everyone.

So Graham, is this pointed at me, does that mean im out as a future instructor, what with my special skills using a bic lighter, skills that i have built up over the space of 2 hours in my shed this afternoon.

Oh well back to being a rag and bone man for me, killed my dreams you have!!!!!

No bother bud, sorry if I came across as harsh.

There is a wealth of information on this site and a lot of good friends to be had, and the banter is great too, even Coln18 has his moments lol.

I just thought that if you had a specialist skill then someone might send you a pm with someone's details on it etc to help you on your way.

Cheers

Just wanted to clear the air, it takes a gentleman to apologise so would have been impolite not to reply.

As Colin said mate go and say hello.

The Jagermeister tends to erase bad memories col, that's why I bring it lol ...Boom!

Not sure if this has been said yet (not read every post in this thread) but my advice would be volunteer for scouting - you get a bunch of training which is all paid for, lots of outdoor experience, and it looks good on a CV. Ask your district comissioner to place you with a troop that has bushcrafty leaders and you'll learn a bunch of skills as you go. If you're ever in North East Wales, message me and we can meet up and I'll buy you a pint.

ash,
im in a ridiculously similar place to you, apart from the qualification side ive also started working with a local instructor at a small bushcraft school, its volintary but great experience. one thing i find that helps is to teach freinds skills and learn with others, also a youtube channel apart from being good for refrence would be great for learning basic teaching techniques. Im far from a bushcraft expert, but i camp out in diffrent environments probably 100 days a year, so practical experience is probably the best bet for me for the time being.

best of luck

That was a right bloop-out. Haven't seen one of those in a while.
Still, it all came good in the end - I love you guys, you guys are beautiful.
I'm crying now (at the touching humanity).
