Mushroom hunting/woodland in Oxfordshire

Hi all!

I used to go mushroom hunting a lot with my father in Hertfordshire when I was younger, and wanted to give it a go again this autumn, but I'm not really familiar with the woodland in Oxfordshire.

Could anyone give me any recommendations for woods or forests in Oxfordshire that are firstly good for a walk around and might also yield some fungi? (I'm local to Witney but have a car.)

Thanks,
Libby

Be careful of Wytham - it's an SSSI and the researchers take it seriously. Stick to the paths & the walks are great though. Shotover is also good walking, if you can avoid the horses!

I think you still need a pass to go in Wytham wood
Last I heard they were about £10

You do - though I can't recall the price. It is a special area and the rules for issue of the permit basically just allow you to walk in the woods.

From the rules: "these rules are formulated in order to protect the woodlands and the research work which is undertaken...No specimen or other material, whether living or dead, may be collected or removed".

Havng said that, it's a good place for a walk.
