Nicola (Dr Spoon) just finished this one off, it's Birch. I roughed it out as a demo on a course last weekend.

And here is another I just roughed out in burr alder, it's drying now ready for finishing work but I think it will be nice when done.

I know that this has been asked before, but what do you put on as a sealant/coating? But those are very lovely! It makes me wish that we had birch here in San Diego!

they're lovely! I had a go last week at making one out of willow. I made the school girl error of not using a split piece of wood though and so the thing split as it was drying out. It wasn't a beautiful round shape like yours either, more like a miniature canoe with a wiggly tail!

I'm off camping this weekend and I'm going to get a selection of woods to give it a go, again - PROPERLY this time!!
