My stainless one did earlier today no prob at all, all you have to do is make sure the spine is filed square and it works a treat

I think it's actually to do with drawing a spark using flint.

With real flint and a knife blade you do need hard carbon steel. That is always the issue as people use firesteel or Fire Steel or flint and steel interchangably.

For me firesteel is the ferro rod....Fire Steel is the forged high carbon striker used with real flint.

A ferro rod only requires a square sharp scraper of any material to produce sparks.

Schwert is dead on. Have used broken glass, tile, flint shards, metal bottlecaps (just figured that one out)... experiment with some other stuff and you just may find out how many things will actually work with a firestee!

...As for mora's, you can't really go wrong with any of them. Personally, the carbon laminate s-1 and s-2's are my favs
