I am going to make a sheath for my mora and firesteel. For the loop do I just make the welt double the thickness to allow for the loop for the firesteel and just make it short by the loop length. I found the tutorial on here and one on BB excelent but neither have a loop for a firesteel.

this is a shocking diagram and description i know

you can make a small piece about half an inch long so it 'blends' with the loop and welt. does tat make sense?? you could incorporate this extra into one of the 'welt areas (the shaded bit) on the loop section.

i would try and get away with using one thickness of welt if possible. imho anymore looks a bit poop (i should kno...i never posted my first sheath attempt on here!)

i hope you can get the gist?

I cut the back of the sheath to include a tab that sticks out. The tab is folded around the firesteel and into the welt, so it becomes part of the welt. The lower part of the welt is then added, which stops at the tab.
This allows you to add a firesteel loop without distorting the thickness of the welt.

In the diagram above, you would make part C attach to the left hand side of part A, and cut them out in a single piece.

Hard to describe but easy to do :)

This is what the back looks like :
