LOL "action digging" I've never seen molehills joined into a line like that before. The other day I noticed some molehills that were perfectly in line with the path through a willow plantation. It was so accurate it was as if the path had been strafed by little aircraft firing little rockets down onto the path. And only on the path, none elsewhere.....
Was the soil waterlogged there? The only time I've seen that was when there was a thin layer of soil over bedrock. That doesn't seem to be the case there though.
The soil was indeed waterlogged, and very rich (peaty). There are dozens of cricket bat willows there. Some were recently harvested and me and the boy went for a look.
