Nope there isn't an explanation needed but I will give one anyway.
in the thread you are alluding to Graham stated that the thread was beginning to get political which is against the rules of BCUK, the rules each and everyone one of us agreed to when we joined.
The warning was ignored so the thread was closed.
Simples

As a rule we mods do not close threads unnecessarily, however we rely on self moderation from members to an extent, when this isn't used then we use the close thread option.
