Hi Guys, newbie on here so apologies if this is old hat but I have a Solo Pot stainless steel, butterfly handles nice pot use it a lot unfortunately it doesn’t have a bale handle so I am in the process of fitting one, I have some 400mm 2mm steel rod, which I have bent into the shape I prefer with a fold top centre so the handle can’t slide sideways when suspended over the fire, I will drill 3mm holes one either side and push through from the inside small clevis pins the holes in the clevis pin being the same diameter as the rods , which I will bend into place to form the handle, I believe it best to put one hole between the butterfly handles as I think the weight of the butterfly handles may cause the pot to tilt to one side if I didn’t. Has anyone made a similar modification or have any advice on something I may have missed, a simple project I know but I like my gear to work and look right at the same time. Thanks in advance.

I have adapted the bales on a number of my Zebra camping pots and my Kelly Kettles.
I’m not sure what a solo pot looks like.

Ah just looked it up (Mountain Warehouse are doing a good deal right now)

I would counsel against any drilling of the pot.

I’m working on the bale for a lantern (candle in a pot)
I’m using a length of Jubilee clip strip that just clips into a ring around the pot. (Ends folded back so that they engage). This will be removable.
Then I’ll drill the strip for two 3mm lifting bolts* to take my cranked bale.

When I get a mo I’ll add pictures here.

* use female lifting bolts (lifting nuts) then you can fit with countersunk bolts from the back/inside of the ring.

Clipped together and 3mm countersink bolts fitted.
I can’t find my 3mm lifting bolts so I’ve shown some 12mm for illustration

Sounds good, I’m happy to drill the pot not going to loose any integrity and I never fill to the very top.

I made a removeable bail handle for my Ti pot from part of a push-bike brake cable. The connectors were utilised from the innards of a piece of regular cable connector (shown at the bottom of the pic). The handle slides on to the pot and fits under the lip.

I did the same some 25 years ago. I thought I had a unique idea - just shows!

It’s a proper solid solution and I would do it again too.
