A while ago, a modified version of the Nimblewill Nomad wood burning stove was posted here on BCUK in CAD form:

A friend of mine drives a laser cutter for a living so I sent him the file and he zapped some scrap 0.7mm stainless steel sheet. Here it is burning in my back yard:

First, some bacon:

Once the bacon was good and crispy I stoked up the fire ready for the kettle:

By the time I had slapped the bacon into a butty and loaded a mug for tea, the kettle was boiling:

Once the tea was made there was a strong bed of coals in the stove:

There was still a lot of heat coming off the coals. The perforated grate and underflow air slots probably help a lot with this:

I collected another handful of twigs and it soon popped back into flame:

This is why I had it standing on a piece of paper. I wanted to check the footprint of the stove for any scorching. Apart from where some burning bits fell out of the front of the stove, there was no damage. This means that its 'leave no trace' performance is excellent thanks to the solid baseplate underneath the perforated grate.

I'm very pleased with this bit of kit. It is sturdy and burns well without scarring the ground. Now I need to take it out and try it properly in the wild.

Some more backyard bushcraft Nomad action on a damp and cloudy morning. This is the large military Trangia burner that comes with the Swedish army mess kit. It fits perfectly inside the Nomad:

With both front pieces in place the burner is completely shielded from the wind. Air comes in through the slots in the side and up through the perforated grate, just as in the civilian Trangia set:

The upper front piece can be taken off to get easy access for snuffing the Trangia without burning your fingers. Note the nice new rubber o-ring for the lid, I got these from here: http://fettlebox.co.uk/stove-seals-washers/o-ring-for-swedish-military-alcohol-burner-cap.html

This is a great way to use the military Trangia. I always like finding more ways to use the kit I already have.
