Hi guys,

Just wondering what you Android device users are using as Trip logging/journal app? I have looked at loads and "Trip Journal" looks quite nice but is really out of date now and looks like the Android version has been abandoned. There is loads to choose from but just wondering which you're using/favorite etc?

If you're not interested in such devices or don't like taking your device out with you please do not reply. I do not want this to turn into a stupid debate about not taking them with you etc. If you want to moan/get on soapbox do it elsewhere please!

Have you come across Social Hiking yet? I've not fully looked into it myself but it's been around for while and AFAIK it's a good little system ...

Not sure if/how it works with mobile devices but I should think it fairly good

Thnx bud, I have heard of it but like you not fully looked into it yet. I have just registered and it looks like it uses ViewRanger as its mobile app/data source.

Locus

it has POI which can store images, voice notes and attached files
these can be categorised, given custom icons and groups

Evernote
for more Journal rather than POI based, notes have location field, and can attach images and voice notes etc

I don't take anything smarter than my dumb phone and camera when out and about, I prefer pen and paper.

With that said I find that most journal/note taking apps have a tendency to 'lock' you in to their platform. Evernote is a service I use to copy and store internet articles for reading later. I could use it for notes but then I'd have some difficulty exporting them into any future note/journal application.

I usually type most of my notes and journals into plain text files and I have in the past used 'Simplenote' or 'Dropbox' to make sure they are backed up and available on my other machines when I pick up some internet somewhere.

Possibly the most overlooked and easiest way of keeping notes or a journal might be your own email account. Write up your stuff in offline mode, add images if needed and send them to yourself. With a Gmail or Outlook account you won't run out of space anytime soon and all your notes and journals will be timestamped and available wherever you may need them.

:)
