Well, we've done it....Mrs Labrador & I have had a rush of blood to the head (a joint mid-life crisis) & bought a summer house in Halsingland, Sweden!:D

Sounds great. Whereabouts in Hälsingland? I'm a bit further north (eastern Jämtland)

Just got back from there having taken a car load of stuff out there that we'll need; bushcraft & fishing gear, the canoe will be going out there next March. Oh & building a bit of Ikea furniture as my good lady & her mum want a bit of comfort!

You should have a look in the second hand shops for furniture as well. If you are out in the country you can find some nice old furniture for good prices (also plenty of crap, of course).

I think regular holidays in Sweden could be very tempting. How did you get your car there? We stopped going when the Newcastle to Göteburg ferry stopped. How many times a year do you think you'll get out there?

Hi Robin, you can still get there by ferry, see my earlier post from another thread....

About Ferries to Scandinavia:
There ARE still commercial i.e freight / truck ferries to Sweden (Gothenburg), on which you are allowed to travel as a passenger, and take your car. They are fairly basic, and take ages to get there but maybe it's an option. Bad news is they sound like they should be dirt cheap, but actually aren't. Have a look at..

Thanks for that David.

I'd like to return here with my family ( and canoe ) next summer, but I didn't fancy driving all the way down south to get a ferry.

Cheers, Michael.

Thought I'd see if I can make this photo thingy work & add a pic of the place!

That looks fantastic. I thought that I'd persuaded my wife about the wisdom of getting a holiday home in Sweden, but after spending a week out here with me she's decided that it's a bit too "Blair Witch" for her. She is scared of the dark though, and leaves (don't ask ). I think that I'll show her your pic when I get home in a couple of weeks though...

Looks fantastic! Can I ask, is it winterized i.e. Water and sewerage, and heating / insulation will work year round? Or is it a typical Swedish "summer" house?
By the way, if anyone fancies a little further dreaming ( or Swedish House Porn as my wife calls it)...

Simple summer houses and huts are called a "Fritidshus" literally "free time house".
