Meaning of Latin botanical names

What do those plant name suffixes mean? Some of them I know, some of them I can
hazard a guess and some I'm never really quite sure.

I expect the ones we might be particularly interested in are 'edulis' and 'esculenta' both
of which mean 'edible' :)

Officinal-is / -e etc refers to 'the shop' or 'office' of an apothecary - 'herbal uses', as given
in the first link is a bit vague but certainly true.
