Chears Dave,

I was looking for the advanced one all over since I picked a printed one up in a shop - but couldn't find it anywhere.

Eventually I emailed OS and they sent me 30 copies gratis for use with my Explorer Scouts - very nice of them!

Now I don't have to worry about losing them though! :You_Rock_

Mapreading is easy, lots easier than reading text.

Its only pictures after all

I agree, but it's only easy if you know how and you know what all the wiggly lines mean!

It's definately best tought out in the field, but that's not always possible.

Yeah, some good stuff there. There are a couple of techniques in the "advanced" one that hadn't occurred to me before.

I bought myself a lensatic compass and managed to download a little guide on how to use it from the net. It does seem complicated at first but is really accurate if you can work from a landmark and want to locate exactly where you are.
