I had to rescue the wife and dog from quick sand a few years ago! Grabbed the dog first, then the wife!, what does that say!
I have done the underwear broken ice on lake thing, so i know i would do it to save my dog.
Well done to the man for taking a calculated risk, and then proceeding to execute the military trained way!.
I agree with Shaggystu, People that would not take any risk for their pets, Give them away to someone who would and cares!

I do it if my dog was still alive, no question. Dogs to me are just as important to me as 99% of the human beings in my life.

If more people on this Earth had this much compassion for their human neighbours, let alone their pets, it would be a much sunnier place. Good on him.

Taking clothes off seems a bit silly. If you go into the water even a thin layer of cloth is going to reduce heat loss and the better friction of cloth than skin might have helped in climbing out. And no, wet clothes nor filled boots do not weigh you down in the water. They would be wet with water which weighs the same as the water surrounding them.

then why is it harder to swim in clothing than in a bathing suit? taking clothes off was a good idea imagine jumping in fully clothed, rescuing the dog but then getting hypothermic because you're clothes were soaking. at least he had warm dry clothes to put on after he'd got out.

I've worked in the news industry for 25 years and can not remember any years where we have not reported the death of someone who has tried to rescue a mangy cur. I like dogs but I've never been so emotionally involved that I'd risk my health for one.

Whilst if anyone tired to harm my dogs they would learn that actions have very serious consequences I would hopefully stop myself from jumping into rescue them from the ice. Teaching rescue techniques I should know better but then again I love my dogs a lot more than most people.
