mammoth tooth/damascus bushcrafter

thought i would show you a damascus bladed bushcrafter with 10,000 years plus Siberian mammoth tooth scales and cocobola and ivory fibre liners i have just finished.

blade full tang 5mm thick Alabama damascus steel, jacksonville alabama, consisting of 5160 spring steel, 203e low carbon high impact high nickel mild steel alloy,15n20 bandsaw blade material,52100 ball bearing steel,1018 structural steel and nickel 200,it is forged out and folded 5 times to give 416 layers

the sheath is 5mm thick veg tanned shoulder hand carved by a friend with oak leaves and acorns

Nicely done. The first thing I looked at, being totally honest here, is the pins. Nice to see that yours are lined up both sides, it is a big pet hate of mine when pins are just plonked in. I spoke to Scruff about this before though, and he showed me an example of how a pin can twist due to the rods inside spiralling. Is the best way to avoid this to either make them in small sections or is there another way?

So plus one there Bernie, and the steel itself looks great. It's dark, and I like dark damascus. The jhandle material looks mental! Very eye catching.

hi spam i don't make the pins,i get them from a custom pin maker in the states, it would be a bit to fiddeley for me

it was destined for ebay, as have had the blade ready for a bit. and have been waiting for the mammoth tooth,but a chap from berkshire rang me emailed the pics and he bought it for a user knife.

Very nice work even if the handle is a little fancy for my taste - I am glad it is going to be a user - it is too good to sit unused!
