I've only recently started to get into using a hammock! I've not actually slept out in it yet, but practicing setting it up etc.

Moneys tight and was wondering if there was a short to the question of using an under blanket!

I had wondered if a cheap sleeping bag could be rigged up for the job, but I'm starting to think I need Pickford Removals to help me out next time out due to size and weight of my gear!

Any suggestions? But remember cash is a consideration.

I've just seen a group buy, so don't mean to tread on toes about this, it's just to much for me sorry guys!

Hi Pib,
I made an "all enclosing" Ogripod last year for about £30, and have partly made an underquilt in the same vein. I used a Double Duvet, cut a strip off one side and sewed it onto the end (I'm quite tall) then my intention is to sew on a backing of polycotton DPM with tie-cord channels sewn into it so it can be attached to the hammock support ropes. It works on paper, but I need to prove the theory before blowing my own trumpet too hard.
I also recon that an envelope style sleeping bag could be rigged with either loops/tabs or velcro to hang on the diagonal ( zipped as a tube just seems too short) and fold around parts of the hammock to stay in place - again this is purely guesswork as I've yet to get out and try it.

Good luck

As Ogri says, for cheapness the starting point has to be a cheap rectangular sleeping bag. You could maybe cut it to a better shape and sew on loops for hanging then.

Here's some instructions that could help with sizing etc. I (read my wife) made my quilt using thse instructions and they're very good. The materials I bought cost nearly as much as a GB hammock quilt though. Not too bad though - the GB quilts weren't available at the time, IMO my quilt's a better fit on the HH it was designed for and it's got a waterproof/breathable outer. Good luck.
