Not much to go on till he speaks but it shows that its a good idea to go out with some sort of kit if you are off the beaten track, at least some kind of pocket carry survival setup, Like I say till he tells his story we dont know, but one lucky bloke to be alive.

Two broken legs frigging ouch! I can't imagine how much that would have hurt. But as you say it always a good idea to some kit with you. When we would go hiking up Flattop in Anchorage we always had enough for a 3 day 'just in case' kit in my pack. even now if you go out to Umstead (local state park) I still pack a smal but useful overnight kit. Although the chances of getting into trouble in Umstead are slim to none it's best to be prepared.
