After I heat treated it it was a brown/yellow colour and I decided to leave it that way, also less polishing...
It took a few weeks to do, just a hour or so in the evenings or lunchtimes at work for some of the shaping etc. Id made a small forge for heat treating in the back garden and used a drill, hacksaw and cheap bench grinder to rough shape, then files and file guide to finish the blade. The wood was from ebay.
