The wood is Tulip Wood given to me by a woodwork teacher from our local school - via one their pupils who is a member of our Am Dram society.....:)
 
I agree that the shape is difficult to carve - I found I needed 3 differing spoonknives at different times - but the Tulip wood carves very easily ....thank goodness!
 
That is lovely, awesome work :D Gorgeous wood, it has an almost white-gold pearlescent sheen
