There are, but you'd be surprised how big they can get normally, depending on breed/type, a friend of mine spends a lot of time in the middle east and he's seen a few sand spiders, they are huge:

Spidersilk is truly the material fantastic but I doubt it will catch on, as people are too scared of them.

To be fair though, "if I buy that hammock/Para cord/Rope(delete as required), will it evolve into something that will wrap me in a cocoon, and drink me alive?" isnt high on the questions I ask before buying kit.

It wont. the silk will be made by silkworms which are harmless and cannot survive outside a controlled enviroment
