Have you thought of the Camino de Santiago de Compostella(sp) - there are start points all over Europe inc Germany - not just in France...
And they include really nice walks over the Pyrenees. You can also choose between pyrenaen foot hills or the higher ones. Walk through Asturias?

Perhaps he tried to walk the Westweg and got lost in Pforzheim.

Pforzheim seems to be the Bermuda Triangle in the Black Forest Area.

A lot of Pubs, you know?

I live in the alps , on the border between Germany and Austria .
There are lots of options and routes you can do .
If you are not used to walking in the mountains with a full pack then I would advise following hanibals route as this has more valleys and less peaks to cross.
Go as light weight as you can
Keep an eye on weather forecasts. Rain is not a problem but we can get a lot of thunder storms in the more humid seasons . Not even the most experienced mountain hikers here go high up when there is lighting about , it a real risk and a killer here

Train before you do this mountain.s can be hard on the body

Perhaps he was killed by a thunderstorm in Pforzheim?
The Umbrellas in the Beer Gardens there are really heavy!

But perhaps his choice was the silky street, and he is simply still walking?

No, they had been absolutely sure about Ötzi.

The only things which cause some problems are a british ID card and an Apple I-phone with charger and international plug adapter which they found in Ötzi's ruck sack.

Currently they think, it was a joke from Reinhold Messner.
