In Aldershot there's a smallish sized wood called Rowhill Copse (ever go there Tony?) One of the members of the Conservation Society takes a lead in the preservation and running of the wood itself. His name's Roy Champion and I have a HUGE amount of respect for the knowledge he displays - and the self effacing way he displays it.
He's in the past helped the Scout Troop with thier Woodsman badge, and in the next month will be helping out again giving them a practical demonstration of axe, saw and knife safety.
