The natives here use moose almost exclusively unless they are selling tourist crap. A lot of snow shoeing mocs are oversized with felt liners and another trick is to put crepe soles on them. There should be moose hides available from Scandinavia and Russia? The crepe sole is just glued and sewn on and comes in a roll about 3mm thick. It wears very well and is often available from Tandy leather and Weaver leather. I am sure there are European suppliers as well?

I have made several pair but most people like the felt liners since they grew up wearing modern shoes. They find the thin soles to be way too little for the average office dwelling weekender.
