Been doing some more leatherwork, this time a flint and steel pouch...
It's made from 1mm veg tan goatskin, and the thong is a 5mm wide bit of 2mm veg tan cow. The squares are 1cm, - the pouch is about 5" high and 3" or so wide.
The thong brings the top together nicely...
With the knot undone, it opens easily by pulling at the two seams...
It was sewn inside out using saddle stitch, and then turned...
There's no finishing as yet, apart from some neatsfoot oil on the thong. I like the feel of it as it is, although I might put something on later. It was quite stiff after dying, and I was wondering about getting it soft enough to turn. In the end, I worked it in my hands, bending and rolling it in various ways, and that got it sufficiently flexible.
With the steel and two flints...
The steel is from Beaver Bushcraft, and is big enough to get three fingers in.
