That textured finish can be smoothed out by burnishing when damp/drying if you want to.

Few of mine from over the years, i dread to think how many sheaths, pouches, bags, belts etc ive made over the years, not done any leather work for a little while now due to illness, but hoping to get back at it again fairly soon.

I use a homemade burnishing tool which is nothing special it is the wooden piece beside the sheath that is shining from burnishing only (yeah that work area is untidy)

found another photo of a Sheath I made for a friend, I believe who made this knife when he was a teenager, now in his Seventies.
Been making some embossing stamps, thought I'd share the results.

I’ve a very thick wool check shirt/jacket from the 80s which I cant give up..I’ve managed to shrink the arms,so my latest idea is to unpick the top of the arms & let a piece of dark red 1.1 mm leather in to lengthen them.
if it doesn’t work I’ll have to leave the arms off & look like a redneck shirt?
I’m no expert but I think it could work.

Should work out - did something similar with a leather / fabric bag. Just make sure your stitch is snug & tight.
I shall post in here to give the thread a bump and keep it active, purchased Leather from https://www.jwoodleathers.co.uk/ on friday, Imissed the next day delivery service as it was a late order, wasnt processed till Monday, as shut over the weekend by look of it, arrived tuesday morning.
Given theyre in Yorkshire & Im in Suffolk which is covered in snow atm, I was pleased how quick it got delivered.
Never used them before, dont know what there prices are like compared to other suppliers I liked the website and felt comfortable ordering because it was very user friendly.
I must say the quality of what I recieved was very good.
I will use them again.
