Learning how to carve woodspirits.

Hi all.

I have been toying with the idea of carving a woodspirit for a while and thought that learning to draw one first would probably help.

I have been doodling away on any bits of paper or card lying around at work.

Anyway, whilst sat talking to colleagues at work, I was doodling on the polystyrene cups we use when I had a brain wave.

As the polystyrene gives and deforms when gentle pressure is applied, would it help me understand carving a little better?

So I tried and this is the results.

Some one suggested carving soap or air dry clay which may prove to be cheaper and errors can be erased with a quick rub.
