Lanterns

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
I have been interested in getting a lamp/lantern for a while now however I have no idea what to choose from the array available and how easy they are to operate.

I have looked at wind up ones or battery powered ones but I am after something that is fuel powered other than petrol (just a personal thing really :p ).

Also how safe are they to use indoors in case of a power cut?

Basically I am looking for advice on what to look for and also recommendations if you have any.

Cheers,
Andy

I picked up a Fuerhand paraffin lantern on ebay for about £15, it puts out a lovely golden glow around camp and runs forever on a single fill.

I pay £2.99 for 5L of paraffin at a local hardware store, 5L probably last me about 18 months so it's pretty economical.

Drew is right, look at he linked thread. While I know there is a mountain of information on site, using the search function will often show what you need and save yet another duplicate (duplicate in all but title) being posted. Duplicate threads do become somewhat tiresome after seeing them time after time over the years with similar replies; a bit like a 'Groundhog Day' situation.

Mind Ground Hog Day is a great movie though Richard!
