This mighht be difficult to answer but how hot does steel need to get before it damages the temper? I stupidly allowed a blade to get a bit hot. Not too hot for me to touch it, but it was definitely warm. Will this do anything to the temper?
around 250 degrees c would do it or a bit hotter than it is possible to get in a domestic oven. If it has happened you will see some colour on the bit that got hot...if its a straw colour you are still ok, bronze (260 degrees ish) and its getting a bit on the soft side, blue (300 degrees ish) and it would significantly reduce the edge holding ability. No colour=no damage.
I'd agree that you didn't damage it, though it is possible to temper a blade at domestic oven temperatures. It's an old blacksmith/bladesmith joke/truism about getting in trouble with the wife for tempering things in the oven
M2 is nothing compared with H13 or S7 of course the edge of a chisel of that stuff will remain hard at red heat, and at yellow or bright orange is as hard under the hammer as cold mild!
