I bought myself a Axminster perform belt & disc sander to make life easier. The first job i did was 3 blanks of 01 tool steel in the style of Mr Mears knife which i scaled down to 17cm by 3mm. This is so my boys can have a knife that fits their hands. More to come

Ill send in PM a scan of my wilkie woodlore and some full size outlines. They should print out on a4. Also a scan and outline of my Vikstrom scandi blade. That should get you started.

Cheers

Nick

The way i scaled the knife down was :- 1/ Find a picture of a knife on the web. 2/ Using paintshop to get the right size print off. 3/ Stick paper pattern to card using glue stick. 4/ Cut pattern out with a knife. 5/ Using engineers blue or a permanent marker pen colour in steel. 6/ Put pattern on steel and mark around with a sharp point. I hope this helps . cheers topknot.

Hi my sons and i had a day of putting the flat ground cutting edges to the blank blades. Using wet & dry with oil to clean up the blades ready for tempering. The tempering will have to be given some thought.

Hi i had the blades heat treared by s.w.c knives (top man).
The black liners were glued (epoxy resin) to the beech handles, the fronts cleaned up and holes drilled.
The knifes in the pic are mocked up and ready for the final gluing up.

Hi one step closer,my sons and i made a paper pattern for the knife sheafs.
putting the pattern on a pice of veg tanned leather cutting 3 blanks out.
We then groved channels on the insides. Then a channel around the edge,
moisten the leather and ran the over stich wheel
All around the front channel only, and ready for the filler to be glued in
