Looking for big bergan for extended trips hauling radio kit as well as the other stuff

Berghaus Crusader and Karrimor SF 80-130 are short listed but where can I see I get my hands on both for side by side comparison?

I can only seem to find them on line, but something like this needs to be seen

Thanks for reading

When I was trying out rucksacks I just bought a bunch second hand on ebay with the intention of re-selling the one's that didn't fit, unfortunately I bought the macpac and berghaus vulcan in back size 3 which is too long for me, so my plan backfired somewhat. Make sure you nail your torso length down to an exact figure before buying fixed-back rucksacks.

I'd not rule out the highlander forces packs. I have 3 in different sizes and they are great. And a fair bit cheaper. The 66 - my big carry bag - only cost me £40

re-selling ebay, yes I'd heard that one before, and the returns idea is pretty good. What a phaff though. It used to be that .............. Oh actually no, I've never been able to compare specialist kit side by side until the internet. One just bought what the sales bloke told you to buy!
Fella at work i was talking to told me he had berg crusader, but it wasn't. was 30 years old and had a orrible arness. no help at all.

West Devon, Edge of Dartymoor!
The Vulcan has a different back system, and they are sized 1-4. It's usually on a little white label between the top shoulder strap attachments IIRC.
Not sure if the sizing system is the same as the Crusader though.

last post for tonight,
Crusader has same system, therefore since this one has no sizing marked, whatever it is, it aint a Vulcan either! I pull the shoulder straps in and waist band sits under my ribs.

Oh OK didn't know there were two systems! Thanks for that. I can see in the top image the sizing lable which is missing from my example.

Just to add to my confusion johnyboy1971 suggested lowe alpine, and I've just looked up the Saracen. So now I have to check that out too! Possibly too many dangly bits, but hey, its got Molle too. argggggggggggggg

Hi there
I can vouch for Lowe Alpine.. excellent quality packs. I've got a Sting, but the Salient is about 20L bigger. they have the Salients on the exmod website for £85. I got my Sting off them and it arrived in France very fast. Check out the videos below for a comparison of the packs.

The Crusader (or top photograph) has the original Cyclops back system commonly only available in size 2 or 3 and made 80's to 90's. The Vulcan has the Cyclops II back system, modern versions in sizes 1 to 4.

I have a Berghaus vulcan II in mint excellent condition but too big for me, size 3.
I also have a Lowe Alpine Salient which i love to bits but no side pooches, and at least these are adjustable to fit.
I recently sold a Karrimor Jaguar S75, mega comfy and fully adjustable back system. This too is worth a look at.

some Sports Direct stores occasionally carry a few bergans, I've seen the Saracen, Sabre and Vulcan in the Liverpool One store from time to time, might be worth asking at your local store and of course your other best bet is the army surplus stores.

How tall are you? And what back size would you need as there is a size 4 on ebay at the moment.
Also why you looking to change from the s65.
