Ok I got a set for Christmas, and I've been keen as mustard to use them. But have cried off every time I've got round to it. Don't know why but I'm a little erm 'scared' maybe!

Any how apart from me being a freak and mind your fingers, any advice or hints?

On one of the ray mears dvds in the extras i think is a bit on sharpening where ray uses his water stones looks quite simple watching and telling in text are two very different things , basically soak them , keep them wet place knife on the stone at the right angle and push along the stone as if trying to shave a very thin slice off it , as I said seeing it done tells a thousand words, hope it helps ,,,, a bit :)

I have a double sided Japanese waterstone from Axminster. Like you I was a bit scared about using it at first. The extras on the DVD are great and help a lot but the best thing to do is just get in there, but do it very carefully and make sure the stone is wet. Make sure the edge never digs into the stone :)
