Silkstone, Blighty!
I like the self gripping lifting hook thingies! Very nice work.

I remember many years ago when I went to Ascension Islands for a break, and visited the Volcano Club which was a fantastic bar and restaurant. They had some fantastic wrought iron cowboy stylee puzzles whereby you had to remove a ring from an intricately made iron puzzle. I'd love to get a hold of some of them, they are really great fun and would be an excellent round the fire thing for meets. Any ideas anyone?

I once was practising climbing laying back from a continous 40 foot or so vertical groove up one remaining side of a 200 foot high stone railway viaduct which was wantonely destroyed by order of the govt in 1972. It gave me cause to see the stonework up real close. Some of the sandstone blocks were easily a ton or more, and I noticed that they all had shallow round depression's in them. Apparently (I saw some old photo's) they used a scissor hook like the one in the pic but with a bigger span, to lift them into place using a tripod and blocks and tackle's. There was a barrel vault on the one remaining approach arch left standing, it was simply breathtaking, the precision, design and tasteful execution, stonework like that probably isnt done anywhere in this world nowadays. Sad really. But this smiths work is great, lots of character and versatile. Shame I cant understand finnish langauge:lmao:

The gripping hooks things looks like the ones we used when I worked in the forest industry. Basically a gripping hook for hauling timber.

The multipoint spears are for fishing. We have similar here (but it's illegal for some stupid reason)

Ah you don't see ironwork like that around much these days, well not outside museums! The spears are lovelry eels spears I think. The scissor hooks are used a lot in the logging industry and heve been used for at least 2000 years for lifting logs and things that you can't get a good hold on. as for the slasher...

nice find there :)
