Interesting map Overlay.

I found the following by chance and so presenting it here to share ( not sure if its been covered before ) , its a database that overlays older/old maps of varying sorts with Google Map.

It's a superb setup for comparing modern features with older maps of particular areas. A local 'old photo' group I belong to introduced me to it some time ago. There's a slider control on it so you can vary the transparency of the overlay

Fascinating and sad in equal measure. So much of the wild spaces near me have been lost. Thanks for posting though!

What I find interesting about such sites is its an insight in to how certain places have retained their names which persist today - also interesting , at least in the areas i'm looking at is the amount of local Smithy's , Sawpits , Sluices etc.
