I bought a Swedish Firesteel....

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
I bought the scout one (only size available in outdoorworld :)) and its lasted about a year, it has worn thin and snapped in half but still useable.

They are good things, aren't they? :D
Maybe ask Doc, his eldest son, about 8 years old, got one and I think he used it pretty much every waking moment for a while  :D He's a good lad but he did have a thing about fire. I reckon that that's the hardest used firesteel ever :lmao:
In normal use, mine lasted well over a year before I started to think that it was going to snap, but they're light enough to carry a spare. I bought the bigger one after that.

Cheers,
Toddy

:o :o
Mea culpa.....well me and the cat, I hit *edit* instead of *reply*, my only excuse is the moggie was walking on my keyboard at the time.
Sorry addyb, I think I've fixed it and de-edited my edit......does that make sense?

Cheers,
Mary

haha it's alright, Toddy. My firesteel's made by Primus, and I ordered it from the Mountain Equipment Co-op for $10.00. It look less than a week to get here, which impressed me.

So far it's good.....one strike and cotton balls go up in flames. A couple of strikes and some dry ceder shavings to up in flames.

The lessons I've learned: The Swedes know their stuff. Mora knives and Firesteels. Oh, and girls.

Cheers,

Adam
