Hi guys, i came across this the other day, it was at the base of a poplar tree and was huge (about 75cm across maybe more !!)
Any idea what it is ?

maybe some sort of trametes -suaveolens...

Well, yours may be distorted and disguised by the green growth but there are perhaps some similarities to the poplar bracket:- Oxyporus populinus.

I dont think its Oxyporus populinus it usually grows on maple, i believe it could be Heterobasidion annosum / Annosus Root and Butt Rot. What shape was the tree in this fungus attacks the roots at the base and can cause gaping holes.

I only had a quick look at it because i had work to do but i'll bike up there today and get some more info for you lot :)
