Yes I find it satisfying bringing back to use something that many might consider destined for the tip, especially when it's something iconic and high quality. There's some staines and some fading that can't be seen in this photo but it's more than usable. Just need to replace one side buckle, luckily it's the side not sewn in.

I think it was a fair price, I really like this backpack, it's very similar to the one I posted photos of but this one the top flap is attached fully to the body whereas the other one the top flap is attached by webbing that can be adjusted for packing extra large loads. The other one is in very nice condition and I would like to keep it that way so this one will be used if I think it's going to get dirty etc. I actually took the other one up Pen Y Fan thus morning, left the house 4am and got back at 7am in time to wake my 5 year old son up and get him ready for school.
I knew it was dirty from the photos. Didn't notice the broken buckle, not that I'm particularly bothered about that, and didn't know it would smell of smoke. Hopefully I cleaned the smell of smoke off it, it's still hanging on the line, Henry has a temperature and has fallen asleep on me on the sofa so haven't had a chance to go and have a look at it yet.
