For me, one of the things that marks a "Homestead" apart from a "Farm" is the desire to be able to produce all the things that you need.
Ten years ago we planted an orchard to produce apples & cider
But buying the apple trees didn't feel self reliant.
So we learned to graft our own fruit trees. We did a video series on the topic if anyone would like to learn

The trouble was we had to buy rootstocks (you know where this is going don't you?)
Tonight we publish a video on how to propagate crab apples to produce rootstocks. We show both coppicing & layering. The principle can be applied to producing fuel, hedging plants & much more.
So now we have become self sufficient in rootstocks through layering & coppicing.
I hope our fellow tree lovers find it interesting
