hi tjwuk

I'm actually after a new ysstem as my previous Intel Pentium 4 died on me.
I will buy the AMD 64 CPU as well as that 2gb matched pair of DDR RAM.

My PC knowledge has become a little rusty, but am I correct in saying an AMD socket 939 motherboard will fit an AM2 CPU just fine?

Cheers mate.

Correct me if I'm wrong anyone, but depending on your Motherboard, I wasn't aware you could use a AM2 CPU in a socket 939, different pins and all!

Ah yes my eyes decieved me when reading the AM2 wiki page. I read "backwards incompatible" as "backwards compatible" regarding socket 939 and AM2 interchangeability!

Oh well, I still bought the RAM & CPU off him, but I wonder what AM2 board to purchase for it. It's been years since I bought a whole new build! Any reccomendations? I don't care for huge capacity RAM motherboards as 4gb will do me just fine!

Cheers.

If you go for a newer motherboard that is backward compatible with the AM2, you can upgrade the CPU at a later date if you wanted to. Just make sure the RAM is supported though.

I did look at the Asus M2N68 to go with this chip, but recently went for a quad core.
