I often pick up the odd bit of fishing tackle at our local beach along with clearing up old fishing line and the odd piece of rubbish. Today we went down with the dog for a bit of a splash and not only did we have a good low tide but the recent stormy weather has scoured up the sand a bit.
So along with the rubbish todays hall included 22 sinkers much of which are usable, loads of beads, swivels & clips and a couple of lures. I do carefully check things before reusing and I'm getting used to identifying how long something has been rotting in the sea (you don't want a 6oz spiky lead flying off mid cast!) It's also reassuring that hooks seem to decay within hours of being lost so less of a worry for bare feet and paws.
As well as keeping the beach a bit tidier it also saves a bit of money, so worth doing if money's tight. Here's a pic of the haul collected in about 30 minutes!
