I often pick up the odd bit of fishing tackle at our local beach along with clearing up old fishing line and the odd piece of rubbish. Today we went down with the dog for a bit of a splash and not only did we have a good low tide but the recent stormy weather has scoured up the sand a bit.

So along with the rubbish todays hall included 22 sinkers much of which are usable, loads of beads, swivels & clips and a couple of lures.:) I do carefully check things before reusing and I'm getting used to identifying how long something has been rotting in the sea (you don't want a 6oz spiky lead flying off mid cast!) It's also reassuring that hooks seem to decay within hours of being lost so less of a worry for bare feet and paws.

As well as keeping the beach a bit tidier it also saves a bit of money, so worth doing if money's tight. Here's a pic of the haul collected in about 30 minutes!

Nice haul Slowworm, that little lot would be a fair few quid if you had to buy it.

I hate losing tackle and if Im going to fish really snaggy ground I use old spark plugs I get from a mate who runs a breakers yard, save's me a fortune;)

It is somewhat snaggy, yes. Weedy, rocky and with large pebbles - all quite tackle hungry especially when you've not fished such ground before. I'm still getting used to it and loose the odd bit but pick up far more. I've also seen groups of people new to the area march down, cast out and lose loads of stuff in a few minutes.

The hooks are to be binned and many of the swivels have rotted but on other days I often collect useable ones of those as well.
