homemade speedhooks

I made these with some steel wire, paper clips and a simple jig. I haven't tried them yet as I'm waiting for the fishing season to start.
Just wondering if anyone out there has actually tried them, and got any tips to success.

forgive my stupidity, but how do speed-hooks work?

I think they work in a similar way to a safety pin, except with a trigger bar instead of a pinguard (?) The leader line and hook are attached to trigger so when it's pulled, the metal wire under tension springs open jerking the hook into the fish's mouth.
